Recreation

Fishing

Shasta Lake supports a diverse and abundant mix of warm- and coldwater fish, including rainbow and brown trout, Chinook salmon, bass, crappie, and sturgeon, and is popular for fishing, especially near river inlets like McCloud Bridge and Riverview.

Swimming

Shasta Lake has no developed swimming areas or beaches, but visitors often swim from shore near campgrounds or from boats in warm summer water, should avoid heavy boat traffic, and can use the campground pool for a safer, family-friendly option.

Water sports

Shasta Lake attracts waterskiers and wakeboarders each summer with warm water, miles of shoreline, and generally calm conditions, especially along the Sacramento Arm, though some smaller coves and bays are off-limits and marked by buoys.

Shasta Lake is California's largest reservoir — 29,500 acres of warm, clear water with 360 miles of stunning shoreline. Fed by three major rivers (the Sacramento, Pit, and McCloud), it's a paradise for boaters, water skiers, anglers, and wildlife lovers alike, even home to resident Bald Eagles. With average summer water temps of 77°F and breathtaking scenery, it's no wonder Shasta is considered California's premier lake destination.
